What do you mean there's no Santa Claus?

Wow. Watching EGR in this role was like that day so many years ago that I found out that there's no Santa Claus. Talk about shattered illusions- the quintessential tough guy, Edward G. Robinson, as a browbeaten house-mouse of a husband who plays the sap to some floozy, and ends up a broken man. Wow.

At least I can take comfort in the knowledge that the Easter bunny will be here in a few months.

I concur. Talk about bleak.

... but what a performance.

Try 'The Red House'.

He was broken long before he met Kitty, though. I'd almost say he's better off wandering around nuts than living with Adele.
