I kept thinking the music often playing in this film was the kind that I heard when flying saucers wavered about in other films.
Like the start of Men in Black 2 or something.

Turns out the trivia page does mention it haha.

Yup. it's played on a theremin, which most people now connect with sci-fi and horror movies, but this was the first film to use one. Aiming for an eerie, off-balance sound I imagine - like high-strung nerves - and it sure has that.
