So now we have overly sensitive whiners griping about racism in old movies? Okay, so what do you propose to do about that? Get in a magic time machine and go back to 1945, so you can control everyone? Liberals....ya gotta hate em!
There are dozens of Threads on IMDB applying todays PC standards to old movies proclaiming their moral superiority and trashing cinema classics..These are the people that are truly brain dead and do not acknowledge any non PC history....Its sad but these are the unfortunate ones who are not capable of deductive reasoning and intelligent debate on film.

You've commented in at least a dozen threads complaining about "Political Correctness" and rued the stigma now given to the N**** word. In another thread you mention that in 1980, it "wasn't a big deal to use the N**** word" but now everybody is all PC. 😢
Come on -- let's call this what it is. You are not really bemoaning the inability of people to analyze a film within its own historical context. You are upset that bigoted behavior and language is now stigmatized. Do you really have to go through to a dozen different films' message boards and complain about "morons" and their "stupid PC" culture? It seems to me that this may be a theme you seek out more than it is a widespread problem of vast swathes of commenters calling old movies un-pc.
As for me, I didn't see very much in the film that was out of character or especially racist for its time. I thought it was a remarkably accurate slice-of-life depiction of an addict living in 1940s New York. Were standards for racism different then? Well yes -- African Americans couldn't vote, often couldn't share a lunch counter with Whites, and very little stigma existed in regards to calling them any number of unsavory names. Just like it would be wrong to analyze the film's take on race outside of that context, it's equally incorrect to dismiss current attempts to be more tolerant as being "moronic" or "overly PC." (Which you seem to do in a number of threads). Maybe it's time to shelve the anti-PC rhetoric and join the 21st century.

No. I recently saw Blazing Saddles, which was given two stars instead of the four it deserved, precisely because of the n-word, despite the fact that the Rock Ridge citizens were portrayed as morons. I have no idea what racist accusations were aimed at TLW, but I'm pretty sure that some men's room attendants at the time were actually black. That isn't racism. It's reality.
The paychecks!! People don't realize that the actors were working! Earning a living for themselves and their families!! Too much is made about race, not enough about folks working!!
Well I'll tell you I was watching a Charlie Chan film (Charlie Chan In Egypt")and soon as I saw Stepin Fetchit I turned it off. Some years back during a news break a black female reporter made a few remarks after seeing a scene with Stepin for which she took a lot of frack from her bosses
