Did Dracula want to get cured?

Does anyone thing Dracula really wanted to get cured? Oe was it just a scheme by him to get close to the woman? Or ws it both?

reply

I would think old Drac could get a woman anywhere; why would he go to the trouble of this particular one unless she was just "there". It does seem strange that after centuries he'd want to be "cured". This is just a plot device to add more variety to the film; i.e., have the doctor become infected
(instead of having Dracula simply bite him on the neck) via a reverse transfusion; have him go nuts, bring in the scientific element, etc. The script just wanted to get all the monsters into the house.

I think he wanted a cure but after seeing that nurse there ... well, he just couldn't help himself.

Frankly, in this one, I think Dracula had good intentions but -- well -- he's Dracula after all.

I didn't get the idea he ever wanted to be cured. Even if he was cured of his thirst for blood, was that really going to change the fact that he couldn't go in the sun, face a cross, cast a reflection in a mirror, turn into a bat? Even if he was cured of his blood craving, he still had the hypnotic stare. Dr. Edlemann could've cured him and he still would've been able to take the nurse away. Dracula, for some reason, always got killed off early in these movies. In House of Dracula, they should've made Talbot and Dracula rivals for the nurse. Dracula didn't face off with the Wolf Man until the movie Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Dracula didn't have a big part until Bela Lugosi reprised the role in that movie. In that movie there is a scene when Talbot is on the phone with Wilbur and he says, "I believe you're in the house of Dracula right now." It made no sense for them to call this movie House of Dracula. He was barely in the movie and It was Dr. Edlemann's house. Dracula in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, was running the show.

Nah he hag a bigger part in his then Wolfman.

I think of Dracula as an alcoholic or drug addict. He wants to be cured and even seeks treatment but he just can't help himself and relapses.

reply

Nope. Dracula doesn't drink, including even wine, nor did we ever see him use drugs. Dracula is certainly not an alcoholic and her isn't addicted to drugs

reply

I always got the impression that Dracula wanted to be cured, but in the end temptation and his evil ways got the best of him.

I suppose you could argue, however, that the beginning of the film shows his real intentions - the first thing he does when he approaches the house is look through the windows at the girl. The cure idea could give him an excuse for being around the house, and to keep his coffin safely in the basement.

It seemed like 'Dark Shadows" took the cure part for Barnabas and ran
with it for a plot , creating their creature 'Adam" . And Buffy had their own 'Adam' made from Human and demon parts .

He traveled far, so I think it's possible he was curious. The nurse however probably set him off.
