Movie's production
Was this movie really filmed in Nazi-occupied Paris? I've never seen it but the story behind the production sounds incredible.

My father was this film's costume designer. It was filmed in Nice, as it already has been told (there were some huge film studios there), and the production was stopped at some point because of lack of funds. Luckily, a new producer joined in, and filming could resume.
Actually, the film's costumes could be made in a satistying way because my father could get some good-quality tissues from the Lanvin fashion company (he knew Mrs Lanvin personaly). Good tissues were a rare commodity for french costume films during the occupation.
Most of filming was actually completed after the Liberation. One of the actors, Robert Le Vigan, who originally played Jericho, had to be replaced by Pierre Renoir. He had fled France, as he was a notorious collaborator.
oh, that's interesting. i always appreciate those insider stories. thank you. :-)
shareYes, thank you, so interesting. Especially memorable were Baptiste's costumes in his mime sequences- some of the most beautiful work in film in my opinion.
shareYes, thanks for those notes about the production of the film. It will be interesting to know more details about. As you said it was filmed in Nice, and as far as I know that city was occupied by italian forces in 1942, or at least axis forces. Maybe somebody knows more details about this great movie production and stories.
shareMerci for that interesting information, lefrelonvert .
