It has some kids playing the game with an egg pretending to be an eyeball and then when they play hide and seek, one of the kids finds a boy who turns out to be a ghost or is locked up.
It's an old B/w film set in a country house.
The Canterville Ghost has some similarities - but I suspect that's not the one you're thinking of.

Thanks Romjo, but no it was shown on the TV as an old film once in the 1970's and I can't even remmember the title.
I've googled and imd'd looking for "children parties" and weekend big old house but nothing.
The kids playing passing an egg yolk trying to guess what it is until one says it's an eye and screaming is perhaps unique.

I am not certain that it has the exact same scene but it does have something similar, the name of the movie is "The Innocents". It is one of my favorites now.
