Just watched this...SPOILER ALERT

Wow, what a gem... Bogey is just brilliant to watch...loved it... I feel like back then, people must have been blown away by the tricky plot ending, but there have been so many similar movies since that time...

SPOILER:
I was only a little disappointed in the whole rose thing... I knew Bogey blew it with that rose comment, and that Sidney Greenstreet knew it....but I was hoping that there would be more of a twist at the end... but that aside, the ending was great, Bogey was just like "OK, I'm busted"....lol...Hoping that Evelyn was somehow involved or that somehow, is wife was really alive... I dunno... lol...

Also - how did he get up there before her? Did he drive, did they have two cars back then? Seems odd...

Wish there were stars and scripts like this now... dialogue, acting, talent - seems like everything is a freaking comic book come to life, or some ridicuolous CGI that looks like a cartoon... ugh....

"We're gonna need a bigger boat"....

Yeah, I agree, this was a good one to watch. I DVR'd it a month or so ago when it was on TCM and was finally in the mood for some Bogart tonight and he didn't disappoint.

Is it wrong that I was hoping he would get away with it? He is Bogey, after all, but I was glad he was busted at the end and got what was coming to him. It's too bad the description of the movie on my cable guide pretty much gives it away that Sidney Greenstreet suspected him. Between that and Robert Osborne giving away a lot of movie spoilers in his preludes (not for Conflict though) it gets a little annoying, but then again I'm glad a channel like TCM exists.

Back on topic, Bogart must have taken off right after his wife left. She did stop at Greenstreet's house but I don't remember if Bogart knew she was stopping there or if he just hauled ass to get to that part of the mountain road before she did.

A solid movie all in all and glad I spend the 90 minutes to watch.

Remember, the wife made a stop along the way to visit with the old man (Greenstreet), so I assume that that's how Bogey got far ahead of her.

Before she left, Bogart told her to drive slowly, because of the treacherous mountain roads. That's why he got there first.

I don't know... I just watched this movie and it kinda doesn't make sense at all. He kills his wife and then pretends throughout the whole movie that he didn't, even when he's on his own. And when it appears that she might be alive he doesn't go check the accident site (as if he wouldn't have checked, whether she's really dead, when he actually killed her), no, he doubts his mental state!? And his reaction, when he got caught...!? That movie was not convincing.

This comment makes no sense.

Yes, I wondered as well how Mason got up to the mountains before his wife.
It seemed to be dark outside when Mrs. Mason left, but it was broad daylight when Greenstreet handed her the rose. Then she drove for what seemed like many hours during the day. When she finally reached the mountain top it was almost getting dark and foggy.
The time frame is quite confusing, no matter how often I watch this movie (don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it). But other than that I couldn't find anything wrong with it.
