Translation?
is there any translation of the language spoken during the seance? I realize they say Carmel was a gypsy but as Hollywood didn't much care about correct nationalities I'm sure the language wasn't correct.

shareThe language spoken by Carmel (through Stella) is Spanish (which makes sense, since Carmel was not simply a gypsy; she was a Spanish gypsy). The first word Stella/Carmel utters seems to be "oiga" which can be translated as "listen", "hear", or "Hey!" Sounds to me like a plea for attention--which would be logical.
To my regret--because I love it--I haven't seen this movie very recently, so I don't remember any of the other Spanish words in the séance.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.
Someone - two people, really - were nice enough to translate what is being said but I can't believe those posts and comments are gone! What the heck happened? What Carmel is basically saying is "listen, listen. It's not her. She's lying. Thief. Thief of my love/affection". Carmel is trying to tell them that Mary isn't Stella's mother . (There's a sentence somewhere in the middle that no one seems to be able to translate.) Hope this helps a little.

The exact words are: Listen, listen! It's not her, it's not her! Not believe anything! Do not listen to her because she's lying! You thief... Thief of my love!
It is Spanish with a very convincing gypsy accent. Very real.
