She died today at 89 of a massive stroke...

I agree, so sad. I was very shocked a short while ago when I read about her leaving us. Not surprised but shocked.

Bacall in this film was incredible as the scene stealer. WHen she is in the frame it is nearly impossible not to focus on her. The only time in watching this film I did not feel compelled to that focus was in her scenes with Dolores Moran, who was quite beautiful herself, even if she did not have Bacall's presence. So you end up looking at Bacall even in those scenes.

Yes, she is already missed.

I have always wanted to be her character in To Have and Have Not, esp. to sing with Hoagy. RIP.
