Steve, Slim, and Eddie leave Martinique. Do they take Frenchy and the Bursacs with them since they are identified to Captain Renard and his henchmen? I would think it wouldn't be safe for them to stay. Do they stop at Devil's Island? What happens to the Vichy officials that they captured?
I loved the film, the chemistry between Bogart and Bacall, and all the supporting actors but just didn't get the ending.
I think the ending is pretty poor, really. They're going off to Devil's Island to rescue Villemars, but we don't get to see it because the film needs to be 100 minutes or less, I suppose. The rescue would have been more interesting than that interminable fishing scene at the beginning. Never mind. It's still a good movie.
shareI felt bad for the self-sacrificing Frenchy, because Bogart was taking off with Slim, Eddie and the French couple for Devil's Island and leaving him behind to deal with the police. He even says to Bogart that his hotel will be burned down, but "it will only be a small fire, we will make a much bigger one later". I don't know - something tells me his life was going to be quite unpleasant post-finale!
