Walter Brennan was great in this movie also!

I think he should have got nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in this movie.

You are absolutely correct. Walter was one of the greatest character actors of the 1940's and 50's and this role was perhaps his very best! "Wuz you ever bitten by a dead bee?"

I was amazed at how good he was! I'd never heard of him before...turns out he won 3 acting Oscars!?! Now I really wonder how I'd never heard of him before.

Yes, Walter Brennan was absolutely delightful in this movie. And yes i have been bitten by a dead bee. I don't know how, but it WAS dead & it DID sting me, so i flushed it. stupid bee!

Anybody remember Tales of the Gold Monkey? The character "Corky" was obviously modeled on Brennan's character in this film.

He makes a rather irritating goofy sidekick, but wasn't fortunately given too much time to practice his OTT mannerisms. Meanwhile, John Ford always went overboard with such characters, which is one reason I generally dislike his work.

I like Walter Brennan and he was in top form in THAHN.

Yeah, Brennan is a slightly hammy comic relief here (though not nearly as annoying as they usually are) but he was still an actor of considerable skill and range. When you compare his character here with the ice cold personification of evil in My Darling Clementine then they really have nothing in common, it's hard to believe that this is the same actor.
