Where did the tux come from?

When Esther dances behind the Christmas tree with Grampa, she emerges from the other side of it dancing with John, who's wearing a nice tux. Where did he get it? The whole point of her going to the dance without him was because he couldn't get his tux from the tailor's closed shop. He never explained how he got that tux, and during the overdubbed commentary on the DVD there's no explaination either. It should be listed as a "goof" on IMDB.com.

I assume that finally found the tailor's house, and went and knocked on the door to get it. I guess maybe you just have to go with it!

Judging from the way Grampa manoevered Esther towards the Christmas tree, I think he must have had something to do with John finally finding a tuxedo to wear.

Didn't Grampa say he had a tux he could wear?

She's obviously surprised and touches it as if she's amazed that he found a tux. Why should anyone need it explained??? It's not a goof when viewers have to be spoonfed every single thing that happens rather than figure it out for themselves.

The people you idolize wouldn't like you.

Last year, I saw a performance of the stage production of MMISL (which I had actually auditioned for but didn't make it into), and I seem to remember John saying that he had gone rummaging through the phone book and called up every man named Jones listed until he finally found the tailor. I agree, though, they should have indicated that in the movie as well.

Thanks, that was my guess and too bad there wasn't time for it in the movie.
