LUCILLE BREMER

I've read many sources that claim Lucille Bremer was a very bad actress.
Well, I'm no expert on the art of acting, but IMHO, there was nothing wrong with her performance in this movie.
She was beautiful, and she played the slightly haughty Rose excellently.
I wish she could have been as big a star as Judy Garland and other members of the MGM "heaven".

She was an ok actress but WOW what a beauty. Apparently quite a good dancer made a few films with Fred Astaire and then vanished.

She was not bad as an actress but I think she looked too old for the part

She was not a bad actress at all (watch Cyd Charisse for bad acting! Ouch).
Her work in this film is terrific, as it is in the unfairly forgotten
"Yolanda and the Thief" with Astaire. I also don't think she was too
old for the part of "Rose", as young women looked so much older in those
days than they do now. Bremmer was perfectly cast. But...as beautiful
as she was, I don't think she's any prettier than Garland in this film.
Judy is gorgeous in this.

She is a wonderful dancer. I love her in Til the Clouds Role By where she dances with Van Johnson. Oddly, in "Til" she plays an aspiring ingenue and is mentored by Judy Garland who plays an established actress.

I heard she was Arthur Freed's girlfriend. Even if she was, that isn't the reason she got good parts. She was talented and well-suited to the characters she played.

I don't think she's a bad actress, but much too old for this film. They claimed in the film she was a high school senior I believe, when in fact at the time she was 27 years old Judy Garland was 22- I believe they tried to pass her off as a high school junior.

In any case this is a wonderful movie except for Margaret O'Brien's sickening voice and mannerisms!

Otherwise, I enjoy watching it every time.

She was OK in this one, and a stunner in the "Limehouse Blues" number from "Ziegfeld Follies". But her attempt at acting in "Till the Clouds Roll By" is painful to watch. But then again, the film was badly written, and outside of the musical numbers, the entire cast performs at an amateurish level.

"The flip side of fear is understanding."

Agree about her acting in "Till the Clouds Roll By". That one is an odd combination of great and bad for me. I could sit and watch the musical numbers over and over and love them each time. ( As long as I could fast forward through all the dramatic scenes.) I don't think Lucille is any worse than the rest of them; it is just a dull movie with great musical numbers.
