The trolley sequence

Where was Rose and Lon during the Trolley Song sequence? I always thought it was kind of strange that they were missing from that one scene. With that being said, does anyone know who any of the background cast is, so many of them stick to me particularly during this scene and the party scene and it'd be nice to put a name to a face. Also during "Skip To My Lou" did anyone notice towards the end that Esther/Judy messes up the choreography? Was this an intentional or accidental mistake?

I don't know who you mean as "background cast" but actors like Chill Wills and June Lockhart were well known for a long time.

When I meant background cast I meant the people in the background at the party scene and trolley scene who have no lines, well a few of them have lines but they all stick out to me.

The one who I always notice is the dark haired girl during The Trolley Song. She gets up to let John sit beside Esther. I would recognize her if I saw her in another movie but not the others.

The dark-haired girl in the trolley scene is Dorothy Gilmore Raye, also known as Dorothy Gilmore. I believe the blonde woman in the trolley scene, the one in pigtails, is Charlotte Hunter. She is listed in the IMDb cast as "Girl in Blue on Trolley (uncredited)."

I would also love to know who the young man was who wore a pork pie hat and bow tie. He's the one standing to the right of Judy who gazes raptly at her while she is singing "The Trolley Song."

Thank you so much! 

You're so welcome! Glad I could help. ☺ I love classic movies and often, after seeing films like Meet Me in St. Louis for the eleventy-zillionth time, I start noticing the bit players as well as the stars, and I wonder who they were. Lots of times it's not possible to get an answer to these questions, but when it happens it feels so good, like finally scratching an itch!

I, too, have always wished we had names for the many trolley riders and party goers we see. I agree with you there. But as many times, dozens in fact, as I have seen this film, I never wondered why Lon and Rose weren't featured during the trolley segment.

Lon would have been at college since this scene was after the party. The party was for him getting ready to leave for Princeton. Rose must have had something else to do... :-) And, yes! I've always noticed Judy Garland's mistake at the end of Skip to My Lou. It's nice to see someone else has noticed as well!
