Every time I see Fred Macmurray kissing Stanwyck in that terrible wig I laugh thinking of Steve Martin in lipstick being grossed out by the kiss.
Two great movies.

Your post made me chuckle. I just bought "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" on DVD and I will watch it soon!

Wilder did once say that the wig "may have" been a mistake. To me, this is almost a full confession. Stanwyck had gorgeous chestnut brown hair and to bleach it blonde was perhaps the only mistake Wilder and company made in this film.
shareThankfully, it was a wig so Stanwyck's hair wasn't actually bleached. She only dyed her hair once, for Stella Dallas. All the other times her hair was either her own natural color and style or a wig.
And yeah, I think Wilder made up that "the wig was supposed to look cheap" story after the fact because everyone gave him so much grief over it. He didn't want to admit that it looked terrible so he changed the narrative a bit.
Sweet merciful crap!
It's just tea! *sips* Needs more gin.
