The "Monoxide Job" line...

"He'd be all over a monoxide job like rare roast beef!"

Now, WHY would a Car exhaust suicide be deemed suspicious, anyhow?? It happens all the time, and the reference in the movie was to a drunken man falling asleep in the garage.

reply

Don't forget that suicide wouldn't pay the claim. I think what Neff was intimating was that Keyes would have torn it apart if they tried that and tried to make it look 'accidental'.

No electric garage door openers back then, so who closed the door?

reply

Haze58 nailed it. He could have driven home drunk, closed the garage with the remote and then passed out before he turned off the car.

Except there were no garage door remotes in 1938, when the movie was set, or in 1944, when it was released.
