Not to mention that fantastic house of theirs costing $30,000. "30,000 if you could ever afford to finish paying it off", I believe was the quote. I'd take that house for 30,000, sell it for a few million afterwards...or keep it. It is a nice house!

The current estimate on Zillow is $2 million. It last sold 20 years ago for $585k.

Neff's guess of $30k sounds a bit high, either for when it was built in 1927, or for the film's time period (1938). $30k is all Sam Goldwyn spent to build a house twice the size at the top of Summit Drive in 1933.

The little card Neff puts in the phone box, under the bell. If someone called while he was out, the bell would ring and the card would dislodge from the vibration. Way before caller ID was invented.

I always think that the card Neff puts under the door bell looks a bit precarious and could have gone down anyway with the slightest vibration. But the idea is a good one.
