You pay your premiums but when the time comes where you need to make a claim, they'll do ANYTHING to keep from paying out the entitlement. After 30 years with Allstate, they screwed me over when I needed them, and now I will carry no "insurance" again as long as I live. It's an absolute racket and that's for sure!
I had open heart surgery about 13 years ago. Once I hit my $1,000 out-of-pocket, insurance company picked up well over $300,000 - I never paid another penny.
What really pisses me off is paying for car insurance for 50 years, and I've never needed to use it. All that money down the drain.....

That's why I have stated in another post that the two people I most hated in this movie were Norton, the Insurance Manager and Keys the Claims Assessors because they both personified the mindset of Insurance Companies.

They have to make a living and do whats right for the company. They can't just pay out every claim without at least looking into it. The death was fishy. No one saw him fall and he had a accident insurance policy out two weeks before the accident. I didn't like how Norton treated the wife because he had no idea if she was a murderer or just a grieving widow. Keys treated her with respect and at least gave her the benefit of the doubt until he had at least some evidence that she was crooked. Keys was just doing his job and doing his job well at that. If he hadn't stayed on the case, they would have gotten away with the murder and his company would have to pay out 100,000 dollars. That's a lot of money today but think about how much money that was in 1938 when the movie is set. I haven't done the math but that is probably well over a million dollars in today's money when you consider inflation. An insurance company would have to look into such high payouts or they would run themselves out of business.
