Columbia''s answer to Val Lewton?

This film plays like a lycanthropic answer to Val Lewton's CAT PEOPLE. I'm surprised Columbia has yet to give this a DVD release...maybe even put it on a bargain double bill with SON OF DR. JEKYLL.

The film was definitely an attempt to cash in on Val Lewton's Cat People. Both films centered around a beautiful woman who was descended from a cult of devil worshippers and was cursed with lycanthropy. At first, she wishes to rid herself of this curse, but later she embraces it in order to make an attempt on a romantic rival's life. The scene with the wolf in the cacomb even mirrors that of the panther in the pool room.

The plot was nearly identical. The execution, however, was not.

Well, maybe TCM will show it again this year.
