Movie Shown in the Cathedral

A special screening of A Canterbury Tale took place on 19th September 2007 in the nave of Canterbury Cathedral. This is the first time a film has been shown inside the Cathedral.
Scenes of the inside of the Cathedral had to be reconstructed at the studio as, in 1944, the Cathedral Chapter refused to allow filming inside the church.
The screening was arranged by the BBC.

I only just saw this film for the first time tonight. Wish I'd become acquainted with it sooner, as I imagine this Canterbury screening must have been a wonderful occasion.

Sounds fabulous. One of my all time favourites, though the mention of scenes after the end credits was new to me, possibly not on my version?

Many thanks for the report.

The scenes under the final titles are in all versions. But they aren't immediately noticeable or people don't recognise their significance

Thank Steve

You've made me realsie that my much-watched DVD sticks as 'THE END' appears so I usually stop at that point. Time for a replacement!

If it's the Criterion DVD, I hope it lets you see the documentary A Canterbury Trail. Otherwise you'll miss seeing me

No, it's the Carlton 'Silver Collection' edition, so I missed you! ... but when I buy the new one...

Is it worth it?
Actually, the Criterion one is a very good print and there's also a great commentary track to the film by Prof. Ian Christie. Plus an interview with Sheila Sim (Lady Attenborough) and another one with John Sweet made when he came over here in 2000. Plus a few extracts from the 1949 American version to show what they changed for that.

And no, I'm not on commission. I have the Carlton & Criterion editions but much prefer the Criterion one. But it is Region 1 of course so make sure your player can handle them (most UK players can).
