like lambs to the slaughter?


Around the 1:56 mark of the Criterion Collection DVD, there's a quick cut between a military parade led by a marching band, and a flock of sheep running down the center of the street, seen through Micky Roczinsky's camera. The implication seems to be that the soldiers marching in the parade are like a flock of sheep sent to slaughter. I'm surprised not to have seen this point raised in any of the discussions of the movie I've read.

Those sheep aren't being led to slaughter, but they are behaving like sheep. That's how I had always read it.

You probably didn't see any comments on it because most people would have thought that it's so obvious it wasn't worth commenting on
