The Music Score

One thing that this film needs on the DVD release is a separate and new stereo recording of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's magnificent score. It was one of his best. He also wrote "The Adventures of Robin Hood", "Elizabeth and Essex", "The Sea Hawk" and "Kings Row".

Korngold once said that Between Two Worlds was his own personal favorite of his scores. If you like it, you should pick up John Mauceri's recording of Korngold's fourth opera, Das Wunder der Heliane, because some of the material for the score was drawn from that work. Legend has it that the famous soprano Lotte Lehmann broke down in tears when she heard Korngold perform Heliane for her on the piano. Needless to say, she went on to play the part of Heliane in the opera's original production. Unfortunately, because of the politics surrounding Jewish music in Germany and Austria at the time, the opera was never able to take off, and today, there still only exists but one complete recording of it.

I have the recording of "Das Wunder Der Heliane"
It's wonderful as is all of his music. My favorite is "Die Tote Stadt" I was fortunate to see a production of it in La many years ago. I wish they would produce his operas so more people could become familiar and enjoy his music.

I also have the recording of the John Maucere
"Between Two Worlds". Wonderful!
