This great flick is on the boob-tube right now on 'amc' I have seen it numerous times but love it. If I recall the Nazi's surrender after trying to take over the 'Well'. It's a classic. Don't think Legionaire was a remake of this movie, maybe of Beau Geste with Gary Cooper,..(hollywood remade that in 1966)

There was a remake in 1953 called "Last of the Commanches" starring Broderick Crawford.Indians inplace of Germans etc.
