Sahara says it all about WAR

I just watched this movie again after many years. It was one I fondly remembered from years ago when, being a little more naive about such things, found it touching and some scenes brought a tear to the eye. We have a small group thrown together by circumstances, but when in a pinch it's amazing what one can do. Do or die may be corny but it works in this case. How much of warfare is about such small confrontations where it may go unheralded but has an effect on the overall consequences? Never say die, etc, certainly applies. I think it carried an important message when shown in 1943 which still resonates. As a human story about conflict it holds up well after over 60 years.

Have you seen Bataan, m-d-bruce? It's a very similar storyline with a small group of soldiers holding off an enemy advance, German in Sahara compared to Japanese in Bataan. I guess the only major difference is that in Bataan there's an objective. Robert Taylor and his men are holding a blown out bridge and buying time so the American army can retreat.

Definitely worthwhile if you haven't seen it.
