A similar film . . .

If you like "Ox-Bow" I would recommmend the Fritz Lang film "Fury." It's about lynch mobs back when they were committing dozens of atrocities. It provides more elements, although I'd say "Ox-Bow" is more realistic. Still, it's a must see if you enjoy tense justice.

...Also there is "They Won't Forget" which is sort of about the Leo Frank Lynching. Also "Intruder in the Dust", "Stars in My Crown" and "To Kill a Mocking Bird" depict situations that almost lead to a lynching.

Don't forget "Hang em High"

A much better movie than it's spaghetti western sounding title would suggest.

AGREED!
Hang `em High, was far better than The Ox-Bow Incident.
I have just finished watching this film for the first time and I thought the Ox-Bow Incident was very poorly written, poorly directed and poorly acted. I noticed this from the beginning. Although I'll have to admit, the movie left me with an impression that could be enduring. Even then, I think this was Henry Fonda's worst film. On the other hand, I think that one of Fonda's best films was Twelve Angry Men. Also, the small role he had in The Longest Day was good, also.

The Ox Bow Incident - poorly acted???, poorly written?? , you dont know what you're talking about ! You must be out of your mind

reply

I don't think so. Now, for one of Henry Fonda's best pictures, try "Twelve Angry Men."

you think i havent seen it ? It's one of my favourite movies. They are both masterpieces

"... They are both masterpieces."

Acknowledged. If I'm not mistaken, the movie Twelve Angry Men" has been used as a training aid in law schools. Maybe it still is.

If this was a mistake, it was an honest one. Sorry.

Both films are unforgettable.

Someone else mentioned They Won't Forget. I saw this last year, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it was the script or simply the events taking place, I don't know, but I was furious after seeing the picture. It's time for a second viewing to see if my views have changed.

Another movie set in more modern times (well at least 1950) was the 1950 movie The Sound of Fury. It stars Frank Lovejoy who gets innocently involved with a murderer played by Lloyd Bridges who is excellent in this movie. The two men are arrested. The local newspaper man is sure that Frank will be cleared and Lloyd will be brought to justice but the local towns people (ordinarily decent law abiding citizens) work themselves into a freenzy and have other ideas.

" Fury " is on ' TCM ' tonight. Also, there is a bio of William Wellman, from the " Men Who Made The Movies " series on ' TCM ', at 10 AM ( Eastern ), on Tuesday. By the way, what about " Breaker Morant "? Shouldn't it be mentioned along with some of these other films?
