I thought it was interesting that Dana Andrews got second billing in the cast. While his character was certainly an important one, and his acting was quite different from what I've seen before, it was not a large part. Maybe he was in top form with the studios in 1943? What do you think?
I think Andrews' star was on the rise by 1943, but more importantly - while he doesn't appear until the final third or so of the film - I think it's the pivotal nature of his role that earns him second billing. His scenes are pretty intense, and - I may be wrong - he probably has as much dialogue and actual face time as anyone in the cast beyond Fonda. I think it's more unusual that Mary Beth Hughes is billed third, now that's a brief role.

excellent point, rudeboy. his performance is the most memorable to me in this great movie with some super actors.
