'God better have mercy on you. You won't get any from me.'

So what do you think should have been done with the mob? I say the death penalty for Tetley and Deputy Butch Mapes. Tetley should be the first to be hung. They were the worst. They were the leaders and were most responsible. Tetley may be worse. While the deputy was probably too stupid to realize what he was doing, Tetley knew exactly what he was doing, as revealed later by his son. Tetley got off easy in the end when he shot himself. He should've been hung. Farnley was another one of the worst ones. But he was blinded by revenge. He wanted so badly to avenge his friend, who he thought was murdered, that he didn't stop to think. In the end, he clearly shows remorse. All those men in the bar at the end listening to Gil read Donald Martin's letter were all guilt-ridden. Maybe their punishment is the fact that they have to live with what they did.

I'm sure Donald Martin and maybe even Francisco Morez had friends or even family back home. Maybe someone later came to the town looking for revenge the way Clint Eastwood looked for all the men that lynched him in Hang 'Em High. Maybe others that were part of the mob commit suicide. Maybe some tried to run knowing the sherrif would come for them.
