there is a scene in this film where the Butch Jenkins character enthralled with this "robot mannequin" dressed in a tuxedo in the window of a drug store. every time the kid goes buy he stands there with crowd watching the performance. finally one everning with the street deserted, he stops to watch and suddenly the mannequin comes alive and checks to see if the coast is clear and then lunges down at the kid hitting the window with his cane. the kid runs away in hysterics. when i saw this film when i was a kid it, this scene scared the hell out of me and i had nitemares for weeks. if i saw it nown it would probably look ridiculous but not when i was 5.,

That was probably my least favorite scene. I'm 20 and still got a little scared!

That scene scared the crap outta me as well. Now that I have thought about that scene again, I will definitely not be able to get the song that was playing during this scene out of my head.

I first saw this movie on TV in the early 60s when I was about 12 and it made a deep impression on me. The puppet scene stuck with me for a long time, along with the incredibly emotional acting of Mickey Rooney, who I would also say is very underrated except that he was nominated for this role as well as for "Black Stallion" and one or two others.

I watched this movie last night & I have to say that I SCREAMED when he looks down. I really screamed, and hid my face.

Imagine how scary that would be for a little child never mind a 17 year old like myself!

YIKES!

Over all though, it's a wonderful movie aside from that.

Backbeat, the word is on the street that the fire in your heart is out.

Yeah, that robot thingy was really creepy. Even as an adult it still creeps me out.
