Anyone else watching this movie right now ?
This is my very first time ever seeing this movie especially on TCM ( Turner Classic Movies ) .

shareI know I've seen this one before but I don't remember much about it. Glad to have a Mickey Rooney day!
shareI agree this was a wonderful way & day to remember Mickey Rooney ( he will certainly be missed by all ) . I didn't realize this film was going to be a real tearjerker here but it's still a really good film so far and a definite solid storyline too . It's so worth watching on a quiet day like today . Thanks thrinworks for your reply .
Yes I am. There are so many actors in this movie that I love. I'm watching the scene with Butch Jenkins and Mickey Rooney. Jenkins was such a cute little kid.
Although I have the movie on dvd, I am still watching it on television, as part of the tribute to Mickey Rooney.
The cast is wonderful, like getting to visit with freinds for a little while: Fay Bainter, Marsha Hunt, Frank Morgan, Mary Nash (always a favorite).
I loved the scene with Mickey and Frank Morgan singing "Church in the Wild Wood."
Was thinking of their age difference (Frank's character said he was 67, to Mickey's teen ager), and then fast forward to Mickey living to 67, plus almost 20 more years.
That was a great scene I didn't even know actors Frank Morgan and Mickey Rooney were in a movie together - until today . I remember the actor Frank Morgan was in the movie " The Wizard of Oz " with actress Judy Garland ( both of my favorites too ) . What would have been wonderful & interesting if Judy Garland had been in this movie with both actors Frank Morgan and Mickey Rooney it would have been like a movie reunion of sorts ( wishful thinking on my part here ) . Thanks jfd0210 for yor reply .
shareI also noticed the all-star cast ( another big treat for us fans ) . I just saw that scene a couple of minutes ago too . I really liked the beginning scene in this film when young actor Jack Jenkins as Ulysses Macauley was watching his little rodent pet ( forgot the cute little creatures name ) digging a hole in the dirt in their yard - too adorable . Thanks lynnlady for your reply .
shareIt was a gopher, but aren't they dangerous?
shareyup
I had never heard of this movie
and enjoying seeing Donna Reed Robert Mitchum Van Johnson and I am sure there are others
Mickey Ronney was such a natural
It's something how young most of this all-star cast was too . So wonderfully interesting to see . I don't know how popular this movie was back when it was first out in the cinemas but I know we all here are enjoying it now . Thanks luv_imdb for your reply .
shareYeah, I watch it every few years when TCM has it on. It's a wonderful film based on a great writer's play, and it is very nostalgic for me. It reminds me of when I was growing up in the Midwest in the 1950s, and people seemed more caring and uncynical--everyone pulling together instead of bashing one another. Sometimes I really miss those times.

It just aired again on TCM on 3/2/16. If you don't have a DVR with which to set up a wishlist to catch it the next time around, you'll have difficulty seeing it again. But I hope you do get to see it again eventually. What a great cast, and fine performances. Some of those scenes will melt anyone's heart.

Thanks again ZurichGnome unfortunately I don't have a DVR
but it's no problem for me .
I'm always checking the TCM Online Schedule daily for films like this one
and usually watching this channel a lot anyways .
Also very hooked on the most recent channel called COMET as well ( so love classic sci fi films too ! ) .
I don't know if you have this channel but if you do it's worth watching .
Of course it's not TCM but still a good second channel for selected classic films .
Here's the website and Wikipedia pages for this channel .

I don't think I have comet channel in Spokane. I have Comcast, but don't see it anywhere. Maybe if enough folks in my TV market complain, we'll get it.

Perhaps ZurichGnome like you said eventually you could acquire this channel
when enough people address the issue to your cable or dish service in your area .
Just hope you can get the COMET Channel soon
it's quite an interesting one
has a lot of rare classic sci fi gems on it .
