What the hell, Chaney didnt do his own stunt?

Stuntman Eddie Parker doubled for Bela Lugosi in the action scenes, as well as the scene of the Monster being released from the ice, but in the climactic fight scene, he doubled Lon Chaney as the Wolfman, while stuntman Gil Perkins took over as the Monster.

Is that true? I figure they mean the scene of him jumping at the monster, that was pretty hardcore jump but, Chaney didnt perform it? Lame!

Stars seldom performed their own stunts, although some were perfectly capable of doing so (Maureen O'Hara did some of her own) - it had more to do with insurance purposes and keeping the star out of potentially dangerous situations (and thus able to work).

Also, the difference in the 2 (or 3?) actors playing the Monster was quite obvious in close-ups and mid-shots.

I just saw this movie this morning and as I was looking at Frankenstein's monster I saw it didn't look like Glenn Strange, who later took over this role. In the end of the movie, it looked like Bela Lugosi and now as I read here I see it was so. Always loved these movies although as a kid I was terrified of the Wolf Man. Even thought I saw him one time running down the side of the mountain!!!!!!!!! (in real life) !!!!!!

Actually Perkins doubled Bela as the monster is pulled from the ice by Chaney, not Ed Parker. Perkins, did some of the monsters scenes, as did Parker. Perkins said in an interview how he had been in the Frankenstein Monster makeup for the monster's first appearence being pulled from the ice. He also said he was the monster at the end-during the fight, and that Parker doubled Chaney as the Wolf Man. There may have also been additional stuntmen involved as both the monster and doubling Chaney.

So, exactly how many different actors/stuntmen donned the Frankenstein Monster makeup in this particular movie?

Three . . . four . . . or more?

reply

At least 5
