Just read this book for the first time, and wasn't even aware until afterwards that a movie had been made. I would love to see Del Toro do an authentic remake--Spanish language w/ English subtitles and all.

mm I dunno this is not the kind of movies that Guillermo likes to do. Sure Guillermo is making a trilogy based to some extent in the spanish civil war but his movies are parables, fairy tales, not straightforward dramas like Hemingway novel.
Perhaps Cuarón or Amenábar would be better choices.
well for me it was weird that the movie was in english :P I mean it's supposed to be in Spain and plain country people like Pilar or Pablo spoke perfect english lol
I don't know about a remake, I think Cooper & Bergman were great, but it'd be fun to see how different the story would be with a different director (Del Toro, Cuaron or Alejandro González Iñárritu)
