Scene with Fay Templeton

Is this scene based on fact that Mr. Cohan wrote the Song "45 Minutes from Broadway" in Fay Templeton's dressing room? It sounds far-fetched. Did she really star in his show or is that fiction?

Fay Templeton definitely starred in "Forty-Five Minutes From Broadway" along with comedian Victor Moore. She introduced the songs "Mary's A Grand Old Name", and "So Long, Mary" as depicted in the film. As far as composing the title song in her dressing room, I can't answer that. None of the info I've come across has mentioned it, so I would assume that it was probably written for the film and was not true to life. One thing I do know is that Fay Templeton was a much larger woman than Irene Manning, who portrayed her in the film.

The movie was very kind to Fay Templeton, who did work with Cohan, but was rather fat, and not nearly as attractive or as good a singer as Irene Manning, the actress who portrayed her.

The actress who played Fay Templeton may have been thinner & more attractive than the real version, but I am not so sure about the movie being kind to her. It seemed to me that the movie version was very priggish and generic and the real version--one of the grand old ladies of the turn of the century theater--might have been a bit more lively and interesting.

Irene Manning was both gorgeous and had a magnificnet voice. I don't think the film was generic at all; it was outstanding. I never saw the real Faye Templeton, so I can't comment on how kind the film was to her.
