It's one of the first musicals I ever saw and became a fan of the musical genre because of Yankee Doodle Dandy and An American in Paris. In my opinion, James Cagney is the greatest actor ever. The ultimate tough guy and yet he could be great in musicals such as this.

Awww I love James Cagney so much. He was so talented- his performances so nuanced. My only problem is, no one really knows anything about him. Maybe it's the fact that I'm 18 and trying to talk to teenagers about "old movies"... it just makes me so sad. :( Cagney was such a prolific, genuis actor- his movies should be MANDATORY!!!! GAH! :D
But it's even hard just finding his movies! Blockbuster doesn't have Footlight parade... I don't know what to do...! ;_; emo tears.
haha, I'm 18 too... It's taken me a couple of years to get my friends into classic movies, but fortunately they now are!
Have you looked in the library? I'm not sure that they'd have his movies, but it's worth a shot.
