During this film, several scenes take place at George's farm but the location is never disclosed. It must be within driving distance from Manhattan. Is it in the Hudson Valley of NY or in western Massachusetts or Connecticut? I looked on Cohans' bio but no mention of where his retirement farm is located.
shareGood question. His entry on Wikipedia says he spent summers at a farm in Podunk, Massachusetts and mentioned the town in many of his productions later on. (Supposedly this caused other performers to jokingly use the name "Podunk" as a synonym for a place in the middle of nowhere, hence its popular meaning.)
I agree with you that Cohan's farm was certainly either in the Hudson Valley or western Massachusetts or Connecticut -- clearly in the Northeast and within a couple of hours of Manhattan. Perhaps from his boyhood experience the farm was in Massachusetts.
His farm was located on Bangall-Amenia Rd, in Stanfordville, Dutchess County, NY. He lived there until his death in 1986.
After his death, his caretaker, Marge Zimmerman opened a restaurant down the road from there called The Stage Stop, we ate there a few times in the late 80's, early 90's.
I hope you're talking about Mr. Cohan's SON..., because George M. died in 1942.
The son died in 2000.
