I can't understand them.......because 1/10 makes no sense.......i also didn't like His Girl Friday and was finding it difficult to finish but still I couldn't give it 1/10 because there were some good things.....i mean any movie i have ever seen........personally this movie (TBONTB) is my fav. comedy movie along with GBU.......bye
shareProbably they did that to get this film out of the top 250 or lower placed, because they like other "competing" films better. But it is where it belongs: in the top 200. A masterpiece, unfortunately not well known with the people I know.

The point being that every single film on the site, on the top 250 or not gets 'one' votes. Some people just have a lot of hatred for certain films, and/or have really loose grading systems where a one is something they didn't enjoy and 10 is something they liked (and nothing inbetween.) I've personally only given a single 'one' and that was to "Baby Geniuses," a film that is, in my opinion, completely void of any entertainment value or technical skills.
Anyways, I haven't seen "To Be or Not To Be" yet. It's finally getting a DVD release come March so I'm pretty excited to watch it.

Yes i think that's right.....i remember arguing with somebody who gave 1/10 to Monster......his arguments supporting his 1/10 were pretty wild i must say........he said "nobody should see this movie that's why i gave it 1/10"!

Hi Russell, I don't know whether your question was for me......well if it was then my answer is going to be 7.....i gave His Girl Friday 6 out of 10.......because i hated certain things as you might have (or not?) seen from my posts at His Girl Friday.......i liked some......mostly i hated their too rapid conversations.....i may have to see it again to modify the rating..........

This is indeed a great movie, far superior to the lame To Be or Not To Be remake that proves tasteless at points. Funny thing though -- I love The Producers and Blazing Saddles.
I don't understand how someone could give this a "1" unless he seeks to disparage it for some political reason (I can imagine a neo-nazi hating this movie) or to raise some other movie at this one's expense.
Jack Benny is far less zany than Mel Brooks, and less excessive in his version.
It's the administrators who manipulate the overall scoring and the so-called average rating. After all, IMDB is owned by Amazon.
shareI just saw this movie for the first time and I wonder now,,,, where the hell this film has been all my life? How did I go 44 years without seeing it? It's great!...and Carole is wonderful, funny and beautiful as usual. The dialogue, the timing, all great! I don't see how anyone could give it a "1", but I guess it takes all kinds or so I've been told.
shareA very good film in my humble opinion. I too have yet to see a film that deserves either a 1 or 2 rating. Every film I've ever seen no matter how poor it may be has some redeeming qualities, be it good acting, cinematography, soundtrack, special effects, humour, whatever. It takes considerable team effort to put a movie together and I don't believe any film crew sets out to make a poor movie when filming starts.
shareReading some of the comments on the boards, I believe some people have only seen 10 movies in their whole life. So their basis for comparison is pretty small. That's why they give mediocre movies a 1 instead of a four or five.
A movie has to make me physically uncomfortable and want to pluck my eyeballs out than continue sitting there watching it to rank a 1. One movie I can think of off the top of my head like that is Welcome to Woop Woop (1997). Even stupid or lame-ass movies have SOMETHING tolerable, like making you laugh at how many times the crew or their equipment show up in the frame.
By no stretch of the imagination is To Be or Not to Be 1942 or any of the actors in the movie even close to a one rating.

If you read some of the User Comments for other movies - the ones that also have 'star' ratings - it'll become obvious that there are quite a few folks on this website who think 1/10 is the best score possible instead of the worst. Probably because they never read the instructions, or English isn't their first language.

It's quite delicate to make jokes about Hitler and the Nazis. Therefore one can also find this movie macabre. It's a bit like Chaplins great dictator and others too. I'd give it, however, 8 or 9 points.
