Three-way spilt-screen effect

The three-shot composite, perfectly matched with a moving camera, at the film's finale is a stunning effect shot. Prior to motion controlled cameras, pretty much every effect of this nature was with a locked down camera, and this one was pulled off without that aid magnificently.

Anybody have the scoop on how Sturges managed to shoot this?

I agree it's pretty amazing, but I don't think it's a three-way split shot - why should it? You have McCrea and Colbert SPLIT Vallee Colbert McCrea Astor - no need to split it anywhere else!

Yeah, there was only one split.
