The scenes I enjoyed most
Shayne (Lloyd Nolan) is alone in his room playing cards against himself. He slaps a Gin Rummy winning hand on the table with a triumphant flourish. Then he moves over to the loser's position and counts his debt score. As the loser this time he complains that he's been left with a whole load of tomatoes. Perhaps Shayne can't find anyone sharp enough to be an opponent so he plays cards against himself.
Catherine (Marjorie Weaver) is lying in bed when an intruder enters her room. The intruder has the appearance of a zombie with glowing eyes. For some reason this scene reminds me of Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr) entering the room of James Stewart in 'Rear Window.' Having to try and kill someone in a darkened room is the link I suppose.
Great noir-like shot of Mr Wolff (Paul Harvey) watching some deadly deed being carried out in the creepy grounds of his estate at night. There's something about those leafless trees. Later Shayne can be seen driving through similar leafless trees when he's taking a short cut to head off the intruder.
Also the butler (Billy Bevan) slyly eavesdropping through a partially open door. Everyone is suspicious in this creepy house.
