I wish I could see this remade. I was so excited for the 2002 version, and then it turned out to be horrible. I think the director made a lot of weird choices. If it could be remade by a capable director, here's who I would cast in the lead roles:

Daniel Day Lewis as Eugene
Alec Baldwin as Uncle Jack
Donald Sutherland as Major Amberson
Nicholas Hoult as George
Chloe Sevigny as Aunt Fanny (Even though she's not really old enough)

I can't think of who to cast as Lucy or Isabel. Any ideas?

What can I say about that suit that hasn't already been said about Afghanistan?

Tom Hanks as Eugene (I see Hanks as a latter-day Cotten)
Michelle Pfeifer as Isabel

That's too funny! I don't like any of those choices either. If made I definitely wouldn't see that movie. In fact, there's no need to tamper with the original.
