What was with George as a kid?

They had his hair not just long but in Shirley Temple curls. Then, if that's not bad enough, they had him in what I can only assume was a kilt, but with the curls it might as well have Been a skirt. I didn't finish watching last night and been a while since I've seen all the way through...this is never addressed, correct? No wonder the kid had a chip on his shoulder! Not that I'm defending him, he was horribly arrogant (everybody was an "odd duck"). It's not shown if he was arrogant before the girl look but the kid he fights with calls him "girly curlies", so if he was a nice kid before that, dressing him up, and other kids' reaction to that, would be enough to piss any little boy off, no?

perhaps it was an exaggerated "sign of the times"... you know, to elicit the exact response you had to it?

George was a rebel WITH a cause, from the get-go. Today we'd call it an attitude problem that never got better.
