I looked it up.

In one of the critiques about the film, the writer wasn't sure if Kings Row had been nominated for any Academy Awards. It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Cinematograpy.

And some people even felt that Reagan was good enough to be nominated for supporting actor, but it didn't happen. If it had, he might never have become President of the United States. Although his career was uneven, he occassionally shined in a good role. His friend Bette Davis raved about his performance years later on an episode of 'Larry King Live' calling it "brilliant."

Before my wife and I watched this movie on the beautifully restored Warner dvd last evening, I remarked that Regan was a better president than an actor. After watching KR, I have completely changed my tune. He was terrific!

And contrary to some critics, I thought Bob Cummings was, too. The bad-attitude old lady formerly though he was a fluff, but has now changed her mind.

Somehow after 60-odd years of watching and loving old black and white movies, I had previously missed Kings Row. Now I am going to have to make room on my personal top ten favoites list for it.

The Korngold score was marvelous, but I expected that.

Reagan was a fine actor, a good man, and a wonderful President. Of all his films that I've seen so far, this is my favorite. Heck, this movie is one of my favorites of most of the movies I've seen; period! That's how good I think it is.

This might have been the movie that would have put Reagan into the big time A list of actors of that time but WW2 came along and, sad to say, when he came back his career momentum could not get going. He did a lot of good stuff afterward but the timing of everything in the movies did not work out for him. Another actor who was just hitting his stride when WW2 came along was George Reeves. It is too bad that he is mostly remembered as Superman because before the war he was getting some good parts.
