If you enjoyed Maltese falcon, you WILL enjoy this film

Bogie, Astor and Greenstreet are all excellent, as is the directing and shooting of most of the film.

You will need to forgive or ignore the final 12 minutes in which the plot is 'wrapped up' (scenes directed by Vincent Sherman after Huston abandoned the project to enter war in person), but that's a small concession to make for the fun the rest of the film offers.

I was very surprised at the high quality of most of this film. It deserves more of a reputation.

I'd rather get drunk... I do get drunk... I did get drunk.
