It was ok

Not Bogie's best stuff but ok. And it was good seeing Bogie, Astor and Greenstreet together again.

You have to realize that it was released in Sept 1942. At that time the war with Japan was raging with the United States taking a beating. Things were not going well at home and our powers in charge encouraged an anti Japan hatred that was needed to help to bring the population together. This movie was a quickie put together by Warners featuring the ensemble that made the Maltese Falcon which was release October 1941 only 11 months earlier. No comparison is fair since the MF needed no political slant so the story was more important than the message of ATP. When I wrote this I was also watching ATP; and from my perspective it's a well made film and very enjoyable as was MF.
