Backward map

The map of Panama that appears in the opening credits is labeled backward. When it appears again in the closing credits it is labeled correctly. Strange.

Yes, I noticed that too, having just read a history of the canal. I wondered if it was intentional, since the Pacific Ocean is on the east side of the isthmus, and they were worried about confusing the viewers. But then they turned it around at the end.

No, its the other way around ,fffa01. The opening sequence map was wrong, the end sequence is correct. Due to the shape of Panama, the Pacific is on the south/east and the Carribean is on the north/west.

Having been stationed in Panama for 3 years when I was in the Air Force, I immediately caught the error in the opening credits map. Gatun lake (which they created when they built the Panama Canal) should not be on the Pacific side. I think a regional map displaying Panama's orientation to Costa Rica and Colombia would have made far more sense.

It always confused newcomers to Panama to see the sun rise in the morning over the Pacific ocean, and set in the evening over the Atlantic.
