I love this film!

Flynn is perfect as Custer!
I don't think anyone could have played him better.

Caught this about a year ago and loved it. Flynn and De Havilland (she probably has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen) are great together. I'm looking forward to seeing this again as a part of the month-long Errol Flynn tribute on TCM this month.

They were both incredible together in this one. Olivia never looked more beautiful in her close-ups--such a perfect mouth and beautiful eyes. The camera certainly loved her. And Errol gave what is probably one of his strongest performances. The comic relief was good too--Hattie McDaniel was priceless as Callie. It looks great on DVD.

I like this film also. It was always a favorite when I saw it as a kid on TV. As far as historical accuracy, I don't care. As a kid I might have bought the Hollywood storyline in a lot of "historical" movies but the years of reasonable education have tempered such childish notions. As far as the real Custer, I am confident he lies somewhere between the buffoon in Little Big Man and the saint in They Died With Their Boots On.
Besides, it is the great screen presence of Errol Flynn in a familiar heroic role, the chemistry of Flynn and de Havilland, a splendid supporting cast and the rousing action of the film that makes it what it is... a classic!
