7'1????!?!?!?!?!??! ?!!
7'1?? this movie deserves more than 9!!
shareI'd say this movie deserves a 10, but I'm sick and tired to read everywhere in the comments that this movie doesn't respect history. Who cares? THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON is a magnificent movie made with passion, lyricism and a lot of humour.
shareYeah!!! If it's history you want, well, then...watch...uh...watch The History Channel! Yeah, that's right.
shareI agree that this film deserves better than the 7.1 it currently has. It is and has been a favorite of mine for years. We had an 8mm silent version of it when I was a child and I absolutely loved it then. I have watched it many times since on Turner Classic Movies and was very pleased when it was released on DVD recently. It may not be the truly accurate account of the Battle of the Little Big Horn, as anyone who has visited that site in Montana can testify, but so what? Most films that are about true-life situations only claim to be 'Based On A True Story' anyway. If you want the true rendition of a subject, read eyewitness accounts. Okay, off the soapbox. Anyway, this is an excellent action movie with great characterizations and great actors. Any fan of westerns, Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, or plain old fun action movies will enjoy this one.
sharea film doesn't have to portray war as being heroic though. gave it a 6.
shareDid you happen to notice when this movie was made? 1941, Europe had been at war for nearly two years, Hitler's Army was sweeping across the Continent, and England was barely hanging on. Every American with an I.Q. above a ham sandwich knew that we'd be involved within months (American destroyers were depth charging German submarines at the time, and we were openly shipping munitions to England, a clear violation of neutrality laws).
And you're surprised that Hollywood was cranking out movies that portrayed war as being heroic???
i'm not surprised that hollywood portrayed war as heroic during these times but it still makes this movie worse in hindsight because of this reason. some may call it propaganda if a movie tries to change people opinions towards war when a country is about to start/join in a war.
shareBut it's OK for films like Rendition, In the Valley of Elah, Jarhead, etc. to portray a straw man version of war to propagandize? I smell a double standard.
