Lina's Telegram from Johnnie

The scene is Lina's bedroom on the night of the "Hunt Ball". There is a closeup of the invitation on which it states the ball is Thursday, 7th of March. Lina, who has been suffering from a headache because she hasn't heard from Johnnie, receives a telegram. There is a closeup of the telegram as she reads it. It is dated clearly March 8th and states that he will be attending the ball.
Has anyone else noticed this? I checked the "goofs" for this movie, and there are none listed.

I had not noticed that before but certainly will the next time I watch the movie which I love. Glad to picked up on that goof.

very interesting how u noticed this. i just finished watching the movie and since i taped it, i was able to check on this and u are absolutely correct. strange how nobody in production of the movie realised this unless it was on purpose for clever people (like u) to catch. :-)

There is also a mistake with her hair. When they are at the hilltop and he is messing with her hair, she manages to put it back the way it was, but it is still in a braid. But, for a second when you see her from the back returning to her house, it is a normal twisted hairstyle, not a braid.

It is often said that at time Hitchcock was obsessed with details. At other times, he would say "It's only a movie," meaning details are not so important. In "Dial M for Murder" the date of the murder is give as two completely different dates, I think May and September. I guess in those days, people saw a movie once or twice in a theater, and couldn't find the goofs like we do today.

I noticied this as well and always gave credit to a bit of hanky panky messing up the hair.

maybe johnny didnt really care for the date of the ball since he was only dating her to want to kill her for the money

so im guess he just made the telegram without much thought
maybe he didnt think she would notice (knowing that should would be only reading the note not the date)

That's very soild statement to make! But it makes sense, letting the audience get a feel for how much he thinks about their relationship. Although, I think it was a "goof" because the date of the ball wasn't important, just what took place there.
