Couldn't he have shortened it down a bit for me its too slow and long drawn out A real borefest unusual for Hitchcock who's movies are normally perfectly paced. I find Cary Grant annoying in it also I guess I'm just not a fan of the comedy actor.
Every Scene in a Hitchcock film has a function. One of Hitchcock's Titles for the film is Johnnie.
The question is "who is Johnnie?"
We see him in different roles throughout the film. We see him as a playboy, romantic person, a good friend to Beaky, Immature and lazy husband, mysterious husband, a thief, and as a murderer.
Foreign Correspondent is a really strong film. I liked Suspicion, because of Joan Fontaine's performance, Cinematography, Camera shots by Hitchcock. I found Cary Grant to be annoying in the first half. But I was surprised by his sudden change in his character right after the middle of the film. He becomes very serious. I was very impressed by the sudden change of the character.
I thought the same, too! But for an actor like Cary Grant to not embody the character right away must have been intentional. For one, Johnny might have been more playful in the beginning to catch Lina's eye. And after that he was himself making him more serious and mature. Also, the gambling bit surprised me the most, although, I knew he was "money-hungry" and in the end he acted as devoted husband and a lover of reading; certainly not a gambler. Okay, so this is all leading down to me thinking his wife Lina had the right to be suspcious and should still be.

I got the movie from a local library. I've seen the film a few times. Is the colorized version's ending different?! Im guessing you know I watched the B&W version because my description seems to be different to you.
