Did anyone else notice the creepy shadow in the shape of a giant spider's web on the wall on many occasions? Thought that was brilliant!

It is indeed. And the careful lighting makes sure the "webbing" bisects that room's walls, floors in the right way.
The great thing about that is the symbolism can mean many things as the film goes along. Does the spider's web mean that she is in Johnnie's trap? Does it mean that the house is her trap? Or a myriad other things.

I saw it as a cage whose bar were getting darker and thicker and more ubiquitous.
