A Goof in a Hitchcock Film?
Sad, but true. At the beginning of the film Cary Grant is standing by a fireplace, suavely smoking a cigarette. In the next shot, HE IS HOLDING THE CIGARETTE BY HIS LEG.

shareI should think he would hold it BY HIS FINGERS! (yuk, yuk)
shareTouche!
shareUmm...people move the their hands around when they smoke...
shareI hate it when I see a "goof" reported as "in one shot, the coffee cup is on the table. In the next shot, character is taking a drink, then it's back on the table again in the next shot."
shareWell, it is a goof.
In the scene you first see a medium shot of Grant raising the cigarette to his mouth and then it cuts to a two shot of Grant and Joan (without ever cutting away from Grant) and in this shot he's holding the cigarette low.
There's no need to "defend" Hitch as the two previous posters did. I like his movies a lot too, but it doesn't take anything away from him that there are goofs in his films, all movies have them. No big deal.

Oh you mad cuz I'm stylin on you
BURN THE NEGATIVES!
shareI haven't checked the "goof" page here, but I'm sure you all noticed another goof. When Lina enters Mrs Newsham's place, Lina's dog runs through the door well ahead of Lina. In the interior shot we see Lina enter first. Not that it bothered me. It had no bearing on anything at all.
