Thank you for the information. Personally I don't care for movies that they add color too. It detracts from the story. But that's just me.

Colorization is as much a re-direction of a film as panning and scanning.

B&W owed its 'conception' to the studio accountants. Directors were employees. Employees. Not filmmakers. Employees.
shareFor the most part (certainly in the 30's and 40's) you are absolutely right. But given the accountant's constraints as parameters within which "employees" worked, those employees were conceiving camera angles, lighting and so forth to execute their vision of any particular film.
